Watch: Jelly Roll Couldn’t Get Toby Keith off His Mind – So He Honored “One of the Greatest Cowboys” With a Memorable Cover

Country artist Jelly Roll received a Texas-sized welcome from nearly 75,000 fans at the Houston Rodeo Wednesday, March 6, 2024. It marked a milestone in his career as his biggest show to date.

The rapper-turned-country star surprised the audience by bringing Cody Johnson on stage to perform their duet, “Whiskey Bent.”

A month has passed since Toby Keith, 62, died of stomach cancer. The singer-songwriter influenced millions, including Jelly Roll, who honored Keith on his Houston Rodeo stage.

“I could only think of one person when I pulled up to NRG tonight,” the Antioch, Tennessee, native said. “And it made me think of one of the greatest cowboys that ever lived, and I said, ‘We’re gonna honor him.’”

Toby Keith performed at the Houston Rodeo nine times, with his last performance in 2013.
