Denny Hamlin Dominates NASCAR at Dover

Denny Hamlin was the master of the “Monster Mile” Sunday (4/28) in the Würth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway.

Kyle Busch started from the pole position in the race. He looked to be a contender as he led the first 33 laps of the race. However, after losing the lead and getting mired back in traffic, he was only able to salvage a fourth-place finish for the day.

There were nine drivers that exchanged the lead 12 times during the race. Martin Truex Jr. was the winner in stage one. Kyle Larson was the winner in stage two. Both drivers looked to have the potential to contend for the win.

Denny Hamlin was able to take the lead on lap 254 when his pit crew got him out first after the conclusion of stage two. The race was all Denny after that. He led 136 laps of the 150-lap third stage. The only time he didn’t lead in the final stage of the race was when he left the track for pit road for service.

Kyle Larson made a charge to challenge for the win in the final laps. However, Denny was able to drive defensively enough to keep Kyle behind him. Denny scored his second career Cup Series win on the “Monster Mile.” It was his third win of the 2024 season and 54th career Cup Series win overall.

Kyle Larson did take home the runner-up finish with Martin Truex Jr. claiming third-place. See the complete race results for the Würth 400 here.

Leaving Dover Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson remains the points leader in the NASCAR Cup Series. Martin Truex Jr. holds steady in second with Chase Elliott stays in third. Denny Hamlin’s win moved him up two spots to fourth-place. See the complete NASCAR Cup Series point standings here.
